SS ATLANTIC: COURAGE FOLLY, AND LIES IN THE WHITE STAR LINE’S WORST DISASTER BEFORE THE TITANIC
Robert Chaulk
Saturday, November 30, 2019
McNally Theatre - 9:45 am

While Nova Scotia’s worst shipwreck featured shocking ineptitude by the ship’s officers, it also features dramatic heroism from the people of Lower Prospect, Nova Scotia.  They rescued 370 of the 420 saved from the disintegrating ship.  Of nearly 1,000 people aboard, some 550 died, including all the women and children, except one.
Bob Chaulk is a scuba diver, writer and historian at the SS Atlantic Heritage Park Society and museum in Terence Bay.  He is busy completing his second book about the loss of the Atlantic, the biggest and most modern ship of her day.  Bob is an authority on the maritime history of Nova Scotia and has delivered presentations from Yarmouth to Sydney.
